Why Gilroy Records Are Split
Printed Gilroy resident directories faded out, but the records behind them remain. They are divided by purpose and by custodian. The Santa Clara County Assessor provides address and parcel information, while the County Clerk-Recorder holds deeds, liens, fictitious business-name filings, and copies of birth, death, and marriage records.
The Registrar of Voters administers election records, yet California's My Voter Status tool authenticates a person's own registration rather than publishing a public name or street list. The Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, handles civil, criminal, probate, family, and traffic case information. Older clues sit elsewhere: Gilroy Library has newspapers, yearbooks, maps, and local-history books, and Gilroy Museum keeps family files, photographs, newspapers, and other Gilroy material. Santa Clara County's Official Records Index was removed from the open web on November 5, 2018, so some deed research still requires the Clerk-Recorder's main office.
What Gilroy Searches Can Show
- Search angles: the Gilroy street directory for address-keyed records, the city directory collections for historical shelves, and the resident lookup for one-person research
- Named custodians: the Santa Clara County Assessor, Clerk-Recorder, Registrar of Voters, Superior Court, vital-record offices, and the county Archives
- Local history: Gilroy Library's newspaper runs, fire-insurance maps, books, and yearbooks, plus Gilroy Museum's family files, photographs, and more than 25,000 local items
- Access boundaries: California Public Records Act request routes, confidential voter information, authorized and informational vital copies, and Safe at Home address protections
Where Gilroy Searches Stop
This is a privately run reference site with no connection to the City of Gilroy, Santa Clara County, the State of California, any court, or any library. It points to records and explains access routes, but the following limits matter:
- It cannot confirm that a named person currently lives in Gilroy or at a particular address
- It cannot pull, certify, correct, or change a county, city, state, or court record
- It cannot add anyone to or remove anyone from a voter roll, assessment file, or other database
- It cannot give legal advice about a deed, case, privacy request, or records dispute
- It cannot promise that every link, coverage year, fee, or office detail remains current
Only the custodian can confirm, certify, or correct a record. A property match is not proof of occupancy, and nothing found through this reference may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
